planning your upscale wedding at the citizen hotel in Sacramento

Something that will always be significant on a wedding day from a Sacramento Wedding Photographer is to be yourselves and be present. With the proper vendors and ideal venue you will be able to do just that.

From wedding weekends to a one day celebration The Citizen Hotel offers all of it!

It is no secret that Sacramento holds some of the most notorious wedding venues. They have plenty of indoor, outdoor and hybrid options. As a Sacramento wedding photographer it has been an honor to photograph these gorgeous venues. The Citizen Hotel in specifics holds a lot of character quite similar to City Hall in San Francisco. The European charm and architecture is enchanting.

Why the citizen hotel?

For starters the citizen hotel is an all in one kind of venue. From the getting ready suites to the reception hall, they have you covered. Think full on 2000’s rom com with a modern twist. The vibes are there!

Spaces and places

The citizen hotel has over 9.9k square feet of event space and offer at least ten different spaces to host your magical day. A shameless honorable mention is their bridal suite balcony overlooking the gorgeous city.

If you want the after party, the after party you can have. My couple raved until 1am with their guests!

the art of being present

Wedding planning is A LOT. With the help of the most amazing coordinators and the professional venue my couple had the privilege to turn off their brains and be fully present. There was no worrying outside of when they were able to be around each other. That is how it is supposed to be. The citizen hotel takes care of food and bar during your day. It is extremely important to hire coordinators and designers to help your vision come to life.

Yet another shameless plug — The Wedding Nest. They made sure everything was put together in a prompt way. If there were any inconveniences no one knew until after it was handled. The Wedding Nest is a planning, coordinating, designing and floral team. They kill it every time!

Timeline goals

It is important to know that you cannot be everywhere at once, neither can your guests. The Citizen Hotel can host up to 150 guests including vendors. It may not seem like a lot but in retrospect that is a decent amount of people to have to guide from station to station. One piece of advice I always offer my couples is: make wiggle room. Things may run behind, people may run late or you might just want ten minutes to regroup. Pencil it in!

Example timeline

7am-10am — bridesmaids make up and hair

11:30am — bride’s make up and hair

12:30pm — groomsmen arrive onsite

1pm — photo + video team arrive

1pm — flatly details/dress

1:20pm — groomsmen getting ready photos

1:45pm — brides getting ready photos

2pm — bride into dress

2:30pm — first look/touch

3pm — get ready for ceremony

3:30pm — ceremony start time

4:15pm — immediate family photos / cocktail hour

4:45pm — couples portraits

5:15pm - 5:30pm — alone time

5:30pm — grand entrance / first dance / parent dances

5:50pm — dinner/vendor break

6:45pm — cake cutting

7pm — table visits

7:15pm — toasts

7:45pm — open dancing / Photo Booth opens

9:45pm — reception concludes

If you look at this timeline and think ‘wow, that’s a lot of time on one event.’ it’s because there is wiggle room for things to push back a bit or to allow you to be present and not move on from a certain area too fast!

nate and Mae’s upscale wedding at the citizen hotel in Sacramento

On to the most beautiful deets of the most perfect day surrounded by undeniable love and support. Every detail was plugged in intentionally by Mae and Nate. The vision could not have been executed any better by The Wedding Nest. Their hands on approach and attention to every detail put my couples mind at ease. They had the most moody and elevated reception details.

Hearing their family speeches while overlooking the sunset and city will forever be embedded into my brain. The scenery, time of year and details made up the most perfect evening between Mae, Nate and their family!
